HP leaks Slate specs; touts features that Apple iPad lacks

Apple-HPThere is competition coming the way of the April 3-launched Apple iPad tablet computer – with Hewlett-Packard (HP) leaking details about its forthcoming Slate, touting the benefits of its device vis-à-vis the iPad.

Going by the specifications of both the Apple iPad and the HP Slate, while the former scores better in terms of its wireless capability, display size, and longer battery life; the latter has a leading edge in areas like graphics, processing, cameras, and connectivity.

While HP has not made any disclosure about the launch date of its Slate device, its Monday-released video teasers clearly displays the features that the iPad lacks – most prominent among them being the two separate cameras: VGA Webcam in front, and 3-MP camera at the back; and the ability of the device to connect to USB or SD storage device.

As per the supposed presentation slide released by HP, the Slate boasts support of a pen and digitizer, which is yet another added advantage over the iPad, and helps counterbalance the high resolution of the device’s 8.9-inch capacitative touch screen, hiding an accelerometer and a light sensor.

In addition, the HP Slate appears be using a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom processor, as against the 1-GHz A4 processor of its Apple counterpart; and apparently has the built-in Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, compared to the iPad’s iPhone OS 3.2 version.
