EA: ‘Crysis 2’ coming this holiday season; written by British sci-fi author Richard Morgan

Crysis2According to a late Thursday announcement by Electronics Arts (EA), the sequel of Crysis – Crysis 2 – has been scheduled for a holiday-season release on three platforms: the PC, Sony’s PlayStation 3, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

As per the EA announcement, Crysis 2 will be built on a new multiplatform game development system by developer Crytek; and its story will be written by the British science-fiction author Richard Morgan, who has written novels like the award-winning ‘Altered Carbon.’

Noting that Morgan is working diligently for the story of Crysis 2, EA said: “Morgan is working with Crytek to bring his trademark visceral writing style to the project, which is his first entry into the video game medium.”

Saying that video games are apparently the only things that he can term as “complete addiction” for himself, Morgan said that the video games medium has abounding potential for exhilarating and emotionally-stimulating storytelling, similar to literature and films.

Going by the description forwarded, Crysis 2 moves things across the Pacific and overland to upstate New York, where terrorizing alien invaders haunt the streets and a horrendous plague slays the countless city dwellers with “brutal epidemic speed” – wrecking the city’s system as “its streets and skyline are smashed and in flaming ruin.”

It is in such a chaotic scenario of the game that the player marks his entry as the “one man” who will “inherit the means to survive.”
