The “Loop” is one of the most prominent features of the new Microsoft-branded social networking-centric Kin phones – the singular feature essentially displays recent updates from a number of social networks.
Characterizing the “Loop” setting as a battery-saving move for the Kin phone, Microsoft revealed that the “Loop” will interestingly not only get updated with new posts, but will also refresh itself after every 15 minutes.
Furthermore, the users who want updates more often can either open the built-in feed reader application of the Kin or simply lock and unlock the phone – new updates are automatically accumulated when the phone is unlocked.
Explaining the “Loop” mechanism for saving battery, Microsoft said in a statement: “The Kin service intelligently optimizes updates to the phone for times when consumers need them most. When people unlock their Kin phone, for example, the Kin Loop will automatically seek an update. During continuous phone usage, updates will flow down on a 15 minute interval.”
Though the fixing of the update interval on the “Loop” is one of the several attractive choices that Microsoft has offered in the Kin phone, users need to bear in mind that battery life is always a trade-off while using the feature – as such, heavy users of social networking need to decide whether they want constant updates and resultant shorter battery life or longer battery charges.
