Facebook’s new Safety Center - a useful one-stop shop for all information

Facebook Safety CenterIn an attempt to provide numerous resources to users, parents, educators, teens, and members of the law enforcement community, as well as to counter the increasing cyber-bullying episodes, Facebook Tuesday launched a new Safety Center.

The Facebook Safety Center will essentially act as a useful one-stop shop for finding all manner of information, and has been designed on the basis of comprehensive inputs provided by a board of organizations targeting improvement of online safety for users of all ages.

The Safety Center will enable users to find step-by-step directions on the action to be taken in case of their impersonation by someone on Facebook; and reporting of matters like unwanted messages and offensive Facebook groups.

The Safety Center site will provide Q&A general safety guidelines in sections focused on teens and parents; while the law enforcement section will provide guidelines for reporting a sex offender or terrorist activity; and the educators section will provide additional resources for students as well as teachers.

Referring to the Safety Center concept in a blog post, Joe Sullivan - the chief security officer at Facebook - said: "We've quadrupled the safety content available, and we've created cleaner, more navigable interfaces to help you find answers to safety questions fast. This portal draws multimedia content from Facebook and from independent organizations specializing in safety and security online."
