The American Cancer Society has scheduled this year’s relay event on the coming Friday and Saturday at Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center.
The opening ceremony for the event is scheduled to take place at 6 p. m. on Friday. The event will begin officially with “Survivors’ Lap” which will be followed by a “Survivors’ Dinner”.
The event will end by Saturday afternoon. Children’s ROCcK Choir, City Councilwoman Annie Gillam, D-1st, and YSU president-elect Dr. Cynthia Anderson will be the chief guests for the event.
The midnight hours of the event will be covered by Justin Joseph Edwards who will deliver musical entertainment while the Fight Back Ceremony on Saturday will include Dallas Blocker’s performance.
Relay For Life’s luminaria ceremony is essentially an event organized in the honor of cancer survivors in the community and those who lost their lives due to the disease. The ceremony can be viewed on a large screen inside Beeghly Center.
“Relay is a unique opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember those we’ve lost”, said Sharon Schroeder, event Chairwoman.
