2010 Tax Credit to be Enforced Shortly

health reformsUnder all health reforms signed by President Obama, last month, only the tax credit reform is likely to be enforced now. The rest of the changes in the US healthcare system would not be observed before 2014.

The tax credit reform will counterbalance the insurance premiums, bringing some relief to the small scale business houses. A number of business owners will be given postcards under the Internal Revenue Service in the upcoming weeks, wherein the business houses will have to check for their eligibility for the 2010 tax credit. The notifications are being sent across to thousands of tax professionals.

Under the basic eligibility criteria for getting the tax credit, as defined by the lawmakers, a business must have less than 25 full-time workers, paying less than $50,000 in average annual wage, and covering at least half of the cost of health insurance premiums.

For the non-profit employers, the credit will be refundable which implies that they will be able to collect and get it checked back from the Government despite facing a loss in the business or having no taxable income.
