Boxee’s new Mobile Apps Team seeking iPhone/iPad app developer as first member

Boxee’s new Mobile Apps Team seeking iPhone/iPad app developer as first memberAccording to a recent job posting on the website of the New York-based social media software firm Boxee, which brings Internet video content to the TV sets of the users, its new Mobile Applications Team is seeking an iPad and iPhone app developer as the first member.

Specifically speaking, Boxee is looking for a coder who has expertise in Objective-C - a language that is used on Mac OS X and the iPhone OS – as well as at least one published app in Apple’s App Store.

Noting that, for Boxee, “other screens” – like those of the iPhone and the iPad – are as crucial as TV screens for video, the job posting by the company, interestingly, also mentions “Android development experience a plus”; thereby hinting that Boxee may expand to the Android platform too in the near future.

Initially started as a free, open-source software for bringing Internet content to TV, Boxee not only plays videos and music stored on a user’s hard drive, but also content from other sources like Netflix, YouTube, Last. fm, Picasa, Shoutcast, and CNN.

The development of a dedicated Mobile Applications Team is not the first venture by Boxee into the iPhone app development arena – earlier in March last year, the company had released a free iPhone app that essentially converted iPhones into remote controls for Boxee’s service.
