It has been revealed by a recent poll that a majority of Canadians give support to the legalization of marijuana. They however, do not support the legalization of any other hard core drug.
The highest backing is found in British Columbia. It is reported that here more than six in 10 people opine that consuming marijuana should not lead to an arrest and end in court case.
This has been made known by the Angus Reid poll, which was released on Thursday. The poll stands testament to the fact that a large number of Canadians judge that there is a grave nationwide drug abuse problem. 70% of Canadians covet binding minimum prison sentences and fines for drug dealers and marijuana growers.
Polls in the past have revealed that most Canadians suppose that decriminalization of marijuana possession is suitable. However, they maintain that other illegal drugs should not be legalized.
The survey conducted online took into consideration opinion of 1,010 Canadians on April 8-9 showed that support for making hard drugs legal is negligible. According to reports the scope for error the survey is also very narrow, is plus or minus 3.1 per cent, providing validity to the survey.
