Facebook’s changes to be largely linked to the “Like” button

FacebookThe popular social network Facebook, which is in the midst of releasing some updates to its service, will largely work out the forthcoming changes round the “Like” button – which represents an official altering of the wording on the Facebook Pages used by companies and celebrities.

With the change of the wording in place, users will have to click the “Like” button to indicate that they like a Facebook Page, rather than clicking the button to “become a fan” of the Facebook Page.

Despite the fact that Facebook’s announcements pertaining to the change have thus far focused on what’s inside its site; the change is, in fact, accompanied by a stronger push to get the users to “like” public pages. The site will actually begin suggesting the users different Facebook Pages depending on their profile and their ‘favorites.’

Once a user accepts the Facebook-generated invitation to a page, the original text in the user’s profile will give way to the newly-joined Facebook page which, by default, will become publicly accessible.

Facebook engineer Alex Li elaborated: “Once you make your choice, any text you'd previously had for the current city, hometown, education and work, and likes and interests sections of your profile will be replaced by links to these pages. If you would still like to express yourself with free-form text, you can still use the 'Bio' section of your profile.”
