As per the media reports, TelstraClear is upgrading its hybrid fibre coaxial networks, which will help it provide 'WarpSpeed - Next Generation Broadband' with the capability of delivering 100Mbps.
It is being said that the meaning of 'fast' will be redefined for the users, by the investment of nearly $10m in DOCSIS3 infrastructure [Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications] on TelstraClear's Wellington and Christchurch networks.
March of 2010 will see network rollouts commencing, with services to be progressively introduced as the market demands.
According to TelstraClear CEO Dr Allan Freeth, "This is an investment in the future - a signal to businesses and households that if you are on the TelstraClear WarpSpeed networks you will always have speed to burn."
He continued, "The 100Mbps that this will allow our fiber enabled cable networks to deliver is the same speed Government is aiming for in it's yet to be confirmed 10 year fiber to the premise plan. TelstraClear customers won't have to wait that long."
Wellington will very soon receive a new 25Mbps broadband service - the fastest commercial speed currently available in New Zealand.
Dr Freeth said: "WarpSpeed' will exceed broadband needs in Wellington and Christchurch for years to come making many of the aspirations we all have for broadband a reality. Working from home, including video conferencing from home, becomes a reality while the way families can receive and view their entertainment will be transformed."
Now it won't take hours for the users to download of High Definition content from online catalogues, instead only a few minutes would be required. The high speed will also provide the platform for the delivery of emerging services such as IP TV.
Furthermore, customers would receive instructions from TelstraClear on how to utilize the internet, and how households can do the things they want to do but can't do at today's broadband speeds.
With the introduction of TelstraClear's accelerated 100Mbps, it won't be wrong to say that customers will derive benefit from innovative, video based applications and content services.
