Police arrests suspect in finger-mangling iPad theft

apple-ipad-testNewDelhi-25AprilI.doc:According to a Denver Post report, the police have arrested a man who apparently is the suspect in the April 15 finger-mangling iPad theft outside the Apple Store in Cherry Creek Shopping Center, Denver.
Going by the information forwarded by the authorities, the suspect, identified as the 20-year-old Brandon Darnell Smith, was arrested in a traffic stop, early Saturday morning. The arrest was made on the basis of the image captured by a surveillance camera.
The theft took place near the parking garage of the shopping center, shortly after the victim – the 59-year-old William Jordan – left the shopping mall. He had bought the Apple iPad as a corporate gift; and had wound the drawstring of the white Apple bag around his little finger. Smith reportedly yanked the Apple bag until the drawstring tore off part of Jordan’s finger.
Narrating the iPad mugging incident to KDVR Denver, Jordan said that after he left the mall, he was “spun around. I see this kid … and he's pulling it out of my hand. He kept pulling until something had to give, and it wound up being my finger,” which later had to be amputated.
For the theft, the most recent one on the list of mugging of the easy-to-spot Apple products, the suspect Smith faces charges of robbery and second-degree assault.
