With NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope having recently made history by completing two decades in orbit, leading news websites and blogs online have been giving showing mind-blowing celestial images that the venerable telescope has captured over the years.
Despite the fact that Hubble flying observatory - which was launched aboard Discovery space shuttle on April 24, 1990 - has been through a near total failure patch during its journey thus far; it still has left the humans astounded with some spectacular images of the Universe.
While Hubble has essentially given the humans an unparalleled peek into the farthest reaches of the Universe, most recognizable and iconic images captured by Hubble include – the images of Saturn; the 1995-released image showing the Pillars of Creation within the Eagle Nebula; the 2004-snapped image of a light “echo” illuminating trillions of miles of interstellar dust around the Red Giant star V838 Monocerotis; and the ‘Giant Eye’, which is considered a jewel by astronomers.
Noting that Hubble has revealed the beauty of planets, stars, dust, and gas; as well as sheer exquisiteness of other galaxies, the European Space Agency (ESA) said: “The Hubble is responsible for much of the astronomical discoveries of history: the deepest views of the universe, as well as a more precise knowledge of the same age, the characterization of their black holes and the exo-planets orbiting other stars.”
