According to a G4tv. com report, the spat between Infinity Ward and Activision has apparently intensified - with as many as 38 present and former employees of the studio having recently filed a class-action lawsuit against the publisher, seeking unpaid bonuses to the tune of between $75 million and $125 million.
In addition, these employees are also seeking an additional $75 million to $500 million in punitive damages.
As per G4tv. com, which has obtained a copy of the lawsuit, the employees – having formed an Infinity Ward Employee Group – have accused Activision of breach a contract pertaining to ‘Modern Warfare 2,’ by not paying the entire amount of the royalties that were supposedly due to employees after the success of the game.
Going by the report, the employees group is alleging that Activision has thus far paid only $28 million in royalties, and hence still owes nearly $54 million for 2009 bonuses; along with the other bonuses based on the 2010 first quarter.
The employees group’s attorney, Bruce Isaacs told G4: “Activision has withheld most of the money to force many of my people to stay, some against their will, so that they would finish the delivery of Modern Warfare 3. That is not what they wanted to do. Many of them. My clients are entitled to their money. Activision has no right to withhold their money—our money.”
