The California based health insurer, Anthem Blue Cross faced a lot of criticism after it announced the increase in its premium charges by 39 percent just for the individual policyholders, but a new turn has come up to the new policy which is to revise the plans and file the new rates. The information was confirmed by WellPoint Incorporation, its parent company.
The insurer blamed the miscalculations to be a part of the wrong decision, while calculating the medical costs and the errors were indentified when the State Department of Insurance found conducted an independent review of the reported inflated charges.
Anthem announced to the 800,000 California members in the month of January that the premium rates paid by them will rise up to 25 or 39% by March. It was due to the review by the State that the insurer postponed the increase twice.
WellPoint stated that so far, it has seen the full copy of the state's independent review and confirmed it to be not so important for withdrawing the new rates.
Poizner, a GOP primary candidate for governor said, “We need Anthem to go back to the drawing board."
