A new test for breast cancer may possibly help in the prevention of unnecessary mastectomies that thousands of women have to undergo.
Scientists have been able to get success in predicting, if women, who are treated for an early form of breast cancer, run the risk of developing perilous cancerous cells.
Women are generally recommended to have their breasts removed as a precautionary measure, however with the help of new test, they could evade a potentially needless, and distressing procedure.
The breakthrough was achieved by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, who believed it to be a big leap forward.
Professor Karla Kerlikowske, who escorted the research, stated that after first treatment, docs would be capable of identifying, whether women had an elevated or small risk of developing insidious cancer.
She also stated that women will be able to get a lot of extra information regarding the same, which is going to help them understand their risk of developing menacing cancer.
If an experiment is developed for extensive usage, doctors will be able to counsel women, concerning the need for further treatment, for instance radiotherapy or hormonal drugs.
