There is a substantial increase in the number of mobile internet users in Australia. Almost 50% of the Australian population now carries handsets which support internet usage. But only a third among these, use it regularly for internet access.
Around 29% Australians use internet for search, e-mail, find maps and to access Facebook, Twitter and MySpace on their mobile phones.
There are still many people, who do not access internet on their mobile phones due to a variety of reasons. The main reasons are that while many people are using old handsets while others are afraid of running huge bills.
The research also argued that it is not easy to use internet on old handsets as compared to new smart phones like BlackBerry and iPhone.
Internet search continues to be the most popular activity among mobile users. Around 73% people do online search on mobile phone compared to 30% last year. Other major uses include checking news and weather, e-mailing, checking maps and directions and social networking.
Nokia continues to be the leading mobile company in Australia with a 35% market share of the overall market. iPhone has managed to grow its market share more than two times from 13% to 28%. Most of the people still aspire to own an iPhone in the future, as per reports.
