Consumer Confidence Marks a Continuous Fall

ConsumerA recently conducted survey uncovered that consumer confidence registered a continued slip in the month of April, outlining the increased jitters over the economic outlook ahead of the general election.

The GfK NOP Consumer Confidence marked a plunge by one point in the month, however, the index has grew by 11 points since April 2009, mirroring improving public sentiment in the last 12 months.

In addition, it revealed that feelings on consumers' personal financial situation over the last 12 months registered a small rise, as did confidence about the general economic scenario in the last year.

"Even allowing for current heightened political uncertainty, the fact that consumer confidence has been erratic in recent months and remained below the 21-month high achieved in October 2009 highlights its ongoing fragility", quoted, Howard Archer, chief executive UK and European economist of IHS Global Insight

Fortunately, figures uncovered that consumers have initiated with a change in their mindset, realizing the importance of saving, as the 'now is a good time to save' index marked a jump by six points in April and is ten points higher compared to figures for April 2009.

However, speculations over the next 12 months are not as positive. The index auguring those personal finances in the next year would witness a fall by two points, however, still remains in positive territory.
