ADB Provides US$780 Million To Pakistan For Energy Efficiency Projects

Asian Development Bank.ADB or formally known as The Asian Development Bank will provide the Government of Pakistan with approximate $40 million to invest in the compact fluorescent lamps or CFL. These fluorescent lamps will be energy saving and cost effective will help in saving precious money and energy.

This complete agreement falls under the $1.18 billion dollar plan, which invests in the energy plans.

In 2009, the Asian Development Bank also approved the multi tranche facility, to finance a US$789 million in the energy efficiency projects. This program will help in the overcoming the need of Pakistan for the needs of energy. This project will help save money for each family and will reduce the electricity bill tremendously.

The funds will be released in the branches which are planning to finance the medium term projects, which will emphasize on the thermal power plant rehabilitation, industrial energy efficiency credit line, residential lighting with the appliance replacement, along with the public and commercial need of building efficient retrofits. This project will also help in supplying free of cost CFL’s to the consumers.

With the high requirement of the demand for energy, this project alone determines to reduce the power demand by 1,100MW. This plan is sufficient enough and no need is seen for the building of a new power plant, which would cost about US$ 1 billion. This plan of building a new power plant also will be time consuming, as compared to the implementation the CFL project.
