According to an updated Los Angeles Times report, the terms of the Bungie’s excusive 10-year deal with Activision are similar to the terms that the ousted Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella were seeking for ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.’
As per the information forwarded by “people familiar with the situation,” the deal will give Activision exclusive worldwide publishing and distribution rights to the forthcoming ‘Halo: Reach’ series; while Bungie Studio will keep hold of all creative control over its new intellectual property.
Talking about the deal, Bungie design director Joseph Staten told Wired. com: “The scope and the ambition of what we’re planning is much greater than the scope and the ambition of Halo. I think we’re all eager to go on and go bigger than we’ve ever gone before.”
Noting that Bungie is looking to create a “universe” instead of just a series of games, Staten, talking about Bungie’s expansive plans, revealed the likelihood of Bungie-produced novels, comic books or movies built upon the new franchise. Meanwhile, commenting on the Bungie deal with Microsoft, analyst Jesse Divnich, of Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, said that though game developers desire complete intellectual creative control over their game; the role of the publisher is extremely important too – no wonder even the greatest of independent developers require a publisher to make their games go places!
