Google likely to introduce TV software at its developers’ conference

googleGoing by the information forwarded to the Wall Street Journal by ‘inside’ sources, Internet search giant Google would likely introduce Android-based television software to developers at the Google I/O conference to be held on May 19 and 20.

Though there has been no public disclosure about Google’s forthcoming venture, reports reveal that the Google TV technology – which will essentially open set-top boxes, TVs and other devices to Internet content – is probably drawing the attention of partners like Sony, Intel, and Logitech International SA. These partners will likely offer products supporting the Google software.

According to a Wednesday report by Bloomberg, Sony already intends announcing devices that use the Google software and Intel chips at the Google conference. However, sources have also revealed that though a number of Sony’s product roadmaps will include the Android-based Google TV software, the company will not be betting exclusively on the forthcoming technology.

Furthermore, Google is reportedly also testing some kind of “television search” with the Dish Network – a move that will enable users to search for content on the Internet as well as from Dish’s programming.

In fact, by addressing the developers at the forthcoming conference, Google – which uses its annual conference as a platform for showcasing a wide array of technologies that may interest the developers – may be hoping to initiate the developers’ pursuit for building applications for the Google TV platform.
