With the ‘lost’ iPhone episode leaking the details about Apple’s next-generation iPhone, as well as revealing the somewhat boorish side of the company, there are speculations that Apple’s big event - the June-scheduled Worldwide Developers Conference – will see fewer people lined up to catch the first official glimpse of the forthcoming device.
The unflattering side of Apple as a company recently came to the fore when the Gawker Media-owned Gizmodo tech blog leaked the details of the next-generation iPhone prototype - ‘buying’ the device for $5,000 from a person who caught hold of it after it was left behind by an Apple engineer in Redwood City bar.
Though Gizmodo later returned the prototype to Apple, Cupertino still filed a complaint saying that the device was stolen; thereby initiating an investigation into the case by the officers of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Apple apparently wants information on whether Gizmodo was involved in the felony theft of property.
As a result of Apple’s complaint, officials of Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team raided the house of Gizmodo blogger Jason Chen – the man behind the iPhone leak – and confiscated all his electronics gadgets.
Meanwhile, the public opinion in the entire episode is that even though Apple goes all out to limit access to its unreleased products, the company has probably gone to extraordinary lengths to protect its interests this time round!
