According to the most recent statistics forwarded by Net Applications, the descend of Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) browser continued in April too - with the browser currently being used by barely two-thirds of the surfers.
Statistically speaking, the share of the IE browser plunged to 59.95 percent in April, from the March figures of 60.65 percent, and the April last year figures of 67.77 percent market share. Further, the IE has fallen 10 percentage points - from 70 percent to almost 60 percent - in the last almost 15 months, after having first drifted into the below 70 percent mark in January 2009.
Meanwhile, a large part of IE's loss of browser market share has been gained by the Google Chrome, which showed a month-on-month increase from 6.13 percent to 6.73 percent. Additionally, the Mozilla Firefox also gained almost one-tenth of a percentage point, reaching up to 24.59 percent of the browser market share in April.
The share of Microsoft IE, which hit its peak of almost 95 percent of the browser market in around 2002 and 2003, has been steadily falling over the last few years. In an attempt to bring about a turnaround, Microsoft released - at the Mix 2010 event - a technical preview for Internet Explorer 9, which boasts better graphics and text rendering, thanks to its use of the graphics horsespower of a Windows system.
