Government Puts $5m in Housing Project

Phil HeatleyIt was told by Housing Minister, Phil Heatley that the Government would be putting $5 million in housing project to help families own their homes and provide affordable accommodation for old people. This money would go under the Housing Innovation Fund.

Around 30 families would be helped in the project to afford their own homes and 15 rental properties would be given to the older people.

It was told by Mr. Heatley that giving affordable housing was the main concern for the Government.

"The aim of the Housing Innovation Fund is to encourage partnerships and innovation within the housing sector. These two projects demonstrate how the interaction between government, institutional investors, developers, and community housing organizations can benefit those in housing need", said Mr. Heatley.

It has been expected that the Housing Foundation project would cost around $12m, which includes $3m from the Government. The costing for the Salvation Army project is estimated to $4.95m out of which $2m would be given from the government fund.

It has been seen that the Housing Innovation Fund for 2009/2010 had supported around 10 projects throughout New Zealand.
