The iPad tablet is apparently well on its way to become yet another success story for Apple – going by a Monday confirmation by the company, the device surpassed the enviable ‘one million unit sales’ milestone late last week!
According to Apple, while the one-millionth unit of the iPad, the Wi-Fi-only version, was sold within 28 days of the device’s April 3 launch; the April 30-launched 3G version of the device is estimated to have sold 300,000 units in its opening weekend.
Noting that the iPad sales have substantially outpaced the sales of the popular iPhone, the Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a Monday statement: “One million iPads in 28 days—that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone.”
A more comprehensive analysis of the one-million iPad sales figure reveals that nearly 300,000 units of the device were sold in the first 24 hours of its launch; and about 150,000 were sold in the four subsequent days.
These figures of the initial iPad sales further reveal that during the remaining 23 days of the 28-day period, the device sold just below 24,000 units a day; thereby averaging nearly 1,000 units per hour.
Meanwhile, acknowledging that with the demand of the iPad still continuing to exceed its supply, Jobs also said that Apple is “working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
