In a move that counters the popular trend of putting multiple interfaces on one drive, Seagate has updated its lineup of external hard drives and introduced a new, flexible FreeAgent GoFlex storage system – including drives, connection modules, and accessories – for both the portable and desktop models.
The portable drives are available in various capacities as well as colors – while the 320GB, 750 GB and 1TB drives, priced respectively at $100, $170 and $190 are available in black or silver; the 500GB drives, costing $130, come in black, silver, blue or red.
Noting that Seagate’s new line FreeAgent products essentially bridge the gap between Macs and PCs, the company’s spokesperson Andrew Horowitz told TG Daily: “Our GoFlex product line includes an NTFS driver for Mac OS X on all portable and desktop models, enabling storage and access of files from both Windows and Mac computers.”
For the portable drive system, an array of cable kits are provided by Seagate, including the $20-priced USB 2.0 GoFlex cable; the $30-priced USB 3.0 cable; the $20-priced eSATA cable; the $40-priced FireWire 800 cable; and the $30-priced Auto Backup cable.
Furthermore, over and above the numerous cable options, GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drives can also be paired with a GoFlex TV HD media player or the GoFlex Net media sharing device; thereby enhancing the users’ experience of the drive’s content.
