Close on the heels of a CrunchGear report the Verizon Wireless’s branding partner, Landor Associates, is working busily on a branding campaign for the Verizon iPhone, rumors are now making rounds about a Verizon marketing executive being assigned a full-time, three-month task related to a ‘top secret’ project – most likely a marketing campaign for a forthcoming Verizon iPhone launch.
According to AppleInsider, while the unnamed, confidential source of the latest rumor particularly mentioned that Verizon’s “Senior Vice President of West Coast marketing” is involved in the hush-hush endeavor, Verizon actually does not have a senior VP of marketing devoted to the West Coast region – with carrier’s regional marketing being assigned on a director level.
Nonetheless, the new rumor does, in fact, further substantiate the off-and-on speculations about the iPhone – thus far exclusive to AT&T in the US – coming on the Verizon network.
An earlier this year report too had stated that an Apple contract manufacturer is developing a CDMA version of the iPhone – a version that the Verizon network uses in the country.
Further, with a number of US users apparently displeased with the AT&T service – especially in heavy user-traffic regions like New York and San Francisco -, the arrival of a Verizon-specific iPhone version will essentially result in a shift of users from AT&T to Verizon, rather than boosting the sales of new iPhone units.
