Digital radio launch sees unification of radio rivals

The beginning of the digital radio in Australia saw the rivals of the traditional radio broadcasters of AM and FM bands celebrating together.

In Sydney's Martin Place, the 'Radio United' paved its way for the breakfast radio listeners.

Shedding the rivalries programs on the ABC, SBS and commercial stations were broadcast live side by side and the hosts were the guests for each other's shows.

However, 2DayFM's Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O were off the air after when a lie detector stunt went seriously bad.

The listeners shall benefit by the new digital radio broadcasts, as it would have better quality and reception and additional stations.

Peter Blasina, expert in Digital radio mentioned that although the buyers of the digital radios shall a pay premium initially, but it would be worthwhile because of the improved quality and extra features.

He said: "Digital radio changes everything about the analogue AM and FM that we knew before. For AM particularly, it means a much clearer signal... the way of putting it is that AM is going to sound like FM and FM will sound a step ahead again."
