Amidst widespread criticism about the contentious privacy changes that Facebook has recently introduced, the social networking site Thursday unveiled two new security features which are largely aimed offering protection to users against phishing attacks and other online scams.
Saying that Facebook constantly endeavors to work on new ways to help users maintain the security of their account and information, and protect them from scams, Facebook engineer Lev Popov added in a Thursday afternoon blog post: “Today, we're announcing some new tools and systems designed to keep the bad guys out and keep you abreast of suspicious activity so you can quickly take action to correct it.”
One of the newly-released features, available now to all the nearly 400 million users of the social networking site, has been designed to enable users to sanction the devices that they use for logging in, and later be notified in case their account is accessed from a device that has not been approved by them.
Noting that Facebook also is taking steps to block doubtful logons, Popov specified that the new feature will trigger security and immediately notify the users whenever an unauthorized system is used for accessing their account. In addition, they will also receive information on how to reset their password and ensure the security of their accounts.
