In a Friday announced shift pertaining to the sales of the Google Nexus One smartphone, Google has decided to shutter its Nexus One online store, and would thus rely on traditional retailers for the sales of the device.
While Google's move of establishing its online store as the only one exclusive place for purchasing the January-relased Nexus One was a path-breaking one, consumers apparently did not like the idea of buying the handset without any hands-on experience.
Saying that Google will discontinue the sales of the Nexus One in its Web store once it has lined up other US retailers for selling the handset, Andy Rubin - a Google executive dealing with the Nexus One - said in a blog post on Friday: "As with every innovation, some parts worked better than others."
However, working out an alternative for the online store to sell Nexus One has, thus far, proved to be an uphill task for Google, more so as two leading US carriers, Verizon and Sprint, have recently decided to back other Android-powered phones than the struggling Nexus One.
Nonetheless, after Google has ensured that the Nexus One has the requisite retail presence, it will stop the sale of the device via the online store; and intends using the Google Phone Web site as a showcase for all the Android-based phones.
