Children Should Walk to School

Walk_to-SchoolA survey has found that 20% of the primary school children in Britain failed to provide their address and 75% do not even know their post code. One of the main reasons for this lack of awareness in children is that most of these children are driven to school by their parents.

This makes it very difficult for these children to understand their local area and remember it properly. It was also discovered that very few kids even know the names of the roads in their surrounding areas. Children were also not able to identify local landmarks and were only able to identify other houses and trees.

The survey also found that children who walked to school had a better idea and knowledge of their surroundings. In the city of London, 76% school children walk to school every day and 86% of these children know their home address and 61% remember their post code. This is the highest ratio in the UK.

As a part of this survey, 2,011 primary schoolchildren were questioned. It was found that 75% of the school children live within a two mile radius from their schools.

Education experts feel that it will be better for children to walk to school. Health experts also feel that it will be beneficial for children as they also get a chance to be on the move and stay active.
