On Monday, researchers from US reported that consuming bacon, sausage, hot dogs or deli meats mounts the risk of heart disease by 42%.
The research also revealed that consuming processed meat increases 19% risk of Type 2 diabetes,
The study has been published in the journal Circulation.
It was discovered by researchers that those who consumed unprocessed red meat like beef, pork, or did not carry high risk of heart disease or diabetes.
Renata Micha, from the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and the lead author of the study, stated, "studies have shown mixed results for relationships between meat consumption and cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, most prior studies also did not separately consider the health effects of eating unprocessed red versus processed meats”.
About 1,600 reports from around the world relating some 1.2 million people was examined by the team in order to achieve the results.
It has been found that every 50 gram (1.8 ounce) daily serving of processed meat was related with the increased heart disease and diabetes risk.
It has been suggested that the best thing is to stay away from processed meats like bacon, salami, sausages, hot dogs and processed deli meats in order to lower the risk of heart attack and diabetes.
