Twitter has released its Twitter for iPhone and iPod touch application on May 19, which is its third major mobile app since it launched Twitter for Blackberry and Twitter for Android applications.
The users need not have a twitter account in order to use Twitter for iPhone. The app is downloadable from the iTune store for free. The user can search all tweets and find users in the same spot, view top tweets as well as browse suggested users.
This app is essentially version 3.0 of Tweetie, which the iPhone application Twitter gained when it acquired startup Atebits April 9.
Research in Motion launched the public beta of a Twitter for BlackBerry application, just one day before the Tweetie buy, which has caused some dismay among third-party application developers in combination with a blog posted by Twitter investor Fred Wilson.
Fred Wilson argued that third-party Twitter apps, including Tweetie and Twitpic, could be purchased or phased out once Twitter begins filling holes in its young platform. He wrote it in his blog posted on April 7.
Twitter is also creating a Twitter for iPad app, but the Company has failed to reveal the details about when it will release that program.
