Vodafone Withdraws Controversial Plan

Vodafone Withdraws Controversial PlanVodafone has withdrawn its controversial Talk Add-On mobile plan from the market after complaints from other mobile phone operators and industry experts. The plan was also under the watch of the regulators. It was felt that the current plan will reduce competition and prove harmful for other Companies. Vodafone maintained that it does not support increasing regulation in the market.

Under this plan, Vodafone offered 200 minutes of calls to any landline, but for mobile only covered calls to other Vodafone customers. If a customer wanted to call a Telecom or 2degrees customer, he had to pay extra according to the plan.

Vodafone is also changing its BestMate plan and offering only 1000 texts every month for $6. The new pan will be started from October.

Commerce Commission had earlier raised objections to Vodafone's Talk Add-On mobile and argued that plans like these are against the interests of the market.

The Company has changer the plan with a new plan called Simply Prepay where it is offering 49 cents a minute for domestic landline and mobile calls and texts for 12 cents to any network.

It was also felt that termination charges in New Zealand are higher compared to other countries which can inhibit the entry of new mobile players.
