Auckland police is reported to have conducted an investigation into a possible property fraud ring following the emergence of reports related to fake landlords ripping off unsuspecting renters.
Detectives from the Auckland Financial Crime Unit is seeking assistance from the public in a view to identify the man, who was allegedly filmed by Fadi Alhaddadin when he visited to view a Nelson St apartment about a month ago.
It is revealed that over 18 people are allegedly deceived by the scammers, who rent apartments using fake passports and then show to own the property and rent it out after taking the rent and bond in advance, The New Zealand Herald uncovered.
Docks apartments property manager Gavin Aitken posted that many managers had witnessed soaring complaints numbers over the last two weeks.
One property was being reportedly leased to six different people, he revealed.
Police have extended a confirmation that they are probing a number of complaints in context to fraudulent leasing of apartments in the Auckland CBD.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty posted that over three fraudsters - two men and one woman - are cited to be involved in these cases.
