A new research study claims that using too much Viagra can lead to hearing loss in males. Viagra is mainly used to treat erectile dysfunction in males. The study maintained that one in three men who took Viagra reported hearing loss compared to one in ten men aged 40 or older who did not take the medications.
But some researchers are not convinced with these conclusions and feel that the data may not be very accurate, which could have impacted the results.
It is already known that high doses of Viagra lead to hearing loss in mice. The makers of Viagra acknowledge these risks. Viagra is made by Pfizer and Eli Lilly's Cialis.
But some experts are not convinced with these findings. They feel that more research is needed to clearly understand the link between Viagra and hearing loss.
A lot of medical experts that argue that instead of taking Viagra men should eat plenty of lean meat, seafood, and cold water fatty fish like salmon. Increasing the amount of Vitamin C and garlic can also help.
US Food and Drug Administration had warned of a similar side effect of Viagra in 2007. The current study was also done on American men over 40.
People with hearing loss are being advised not to take Viagra as it can further damage their hearing power.
