Google changes logo to commerate 30th anniversary of Pac-Man arcade game

GoogleTo commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Namco-developed arcade game ‘Pac-Man’, Google’s regular search box logo has been replaced with an interactive Pac-Man Google “Doodle” - the official name for Google’s celebration makeovers.

The fully-playable version of Pac-Man, which temporarily substitutes the famous Google Doodle, can be initiated by selecting the “Insert Coin” button that currently features in place of the “I’m feeling Lucky” button on the Google search page.

Noting that the details of playing the Pac-Man game are spot-on, the GamePro site specifies: “Namco's big yellow guy turns 30 today and Google celebrates by turning their logo into a playable game of Pac-Man for the day. This “doodle” has 255 levels plus a 256th-level kill screen, just like the original arcade game.”

Meanwhile, ever since Google began the ‘Doodle’ concept in 1999 – when the corporate logo was changed after the company’s co-founders, Larry and Sergey, attended the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert -, the company has been playing with the logo to celebrate special days and events.

Of late, some of the most recent changes made to the Google search page pertained to – a Winter Olympics series; ‘Pi’ Day in mid-March; April Fools’ gag featuring Topeka, Kansas, spelling; Hubble Space telescope’s 20th anniversary.
