For the gamers of today, it would be hard to imagine the times when Pac Man was among the only few games. The game recently completed 30 years and it is counted among the most popular games of all time. Google has also supported this occasion as users can play the game free on Google. Many people still find the game very attractive and the best part is that it is such a simple game to play.

People who are familiar with computers have played this game while growing up. The game was first launched as an arcade game in Japan on May 22, 1980. It was then known as Puck Man. The name was changed to Pac Man when it was launched in the US market.

Since its launch, Pac man has been made in 50 versions and as per estimates more than 10 billion games of it have been played. The game was developed by Toru Iwatani who now teaches at Tokyo Polytechnic University.

The idea for developing this game came to him while he was eating lunch. He wanted to make playing games easier for women. He admitted that since food is generally liked by all, he thought of giving the shape of a pizza to Pac Man.

He did not feel that Pac Man will become popular in America and Europe but was surprised with the response. People in America spent more than $1billion on Pac-Man games in the first 15 months after its release.
