Even though Yahoo wants to become popular in internet search, it is still taking steps to become more and more popular in the content arena. It is also aiming to push itself in the publishing space. Experts feel that Yahoo is aiming to diversify and generate alternative sources of revenue with these measures.
Yahoo announced last week, the takeover of articles aggregator Associated Content. It is trying to copy the business model of AOL. AOL has also recently started to transform itself into a content driven business.
Yahoo is still among the biggest online content players according to traffic and customers. The Company is aiming to double the share of original material it publishes after the purchase of Associated Content. Associated has a technology that can predict the type of content customers are looking for. It delivers the content through search engines like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Bing.
Hillary Schneider, Yahoo's Executive Vice President noted that Yahoo is the world's largest media Company and content is very vital in their strategy. Experts also feel that by acquiring Associated, Yahoo has taken a vital step to offer more original content. Yahoo is aiming to double the amount of content it publishes.
Yahoo already takes the services of bloggers and editors for original content. Recently, the Company hired some high-profile people for Yahoo News division.
It is trying to compete with a lot of Companies ranging from AOL to The New York Times.
