ACT Says, Govt. Will have Fight over Impact by ETS

ACT Says, Govt. Will have Fight over Impact by ETSConstant muffles by ACT recommend that the Government will have a brawl on its hands before the transport, energy and industrial areas are influenced by the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) on July 1.

Today, in Parliament, Act Leader Rodney Hide cited National MP Shane Ardern’s statement that “Mr. Hide could stop the ETS if he wished by reconsidering his party’s confidence and supply agreement with National” and asked Prime Minister John Key to remark on the ETS and Act's agreement with National.

Mr. Key expressed gratitude to Act for its input to their stable and unbiased Government and made special indication to Mr. Hide’s post as Minister for Local Government, a benefit made feasible by Act’s election contract with National.

Undaunted, Mr. Hide carried on to accuse that the additional cost of the ETS to families would annul tax reductions for those whose income is between $40,000 and $85,000 per year.

He ended saying that “what Finance Minister Bill English has given back, Climate Change Minister, Nick Smith has taken away for over a million middle-income New Zealanders”.

Mr. Key argued that Mr. Hide’s estimates, as tax hacks are computed as a measure of general earnings whilst the ETS cost is determined as a consumer price index figure.
