Close on the heels of Google’s last week announcement that it intends phasing out the online store for its ‘Nexus One’ handset, the company has reportedly taken the first step in the direction of keeping its word about making the handset available at retail stores.
Towards that end, Google has recently revealed that the Nexus One will soon be available at ‘i wireless’ retail store, which sells T-Mobile handsets in over 250 stores in the Midwestern U. S. Boasting stores and dealers Iowa, Western Illinois, and Eastern Nebraska, ‘i wireless’ will be the first retailer to sell in-store Nexus One.
To be available with a new T-Mobile contract, the post-rebate price of the Nexus One from ‘i wireless’ will be $300.
Though the ‘i wireless’ Nexus One cost is nearly $120 more than the cost of the T-Mobile contract handset from the Google online store, the retailer’s offer comes with the benefit of selecting any calling and data plan. Google, however, requires the subscribers to go in for the $79.99 monthly plan ‘Even More 500.’
Meanwhile, there has been no official disclosure about when Google’s online store for Nexus One will be shuttered. Hence, till the time Google is able to materialize deals with a few more retail outlets for the handset and makes it available only via in-store retail, the device will apparently continue to be sold at www. google. com/phone.
