Google releases Web browser ‘plug-in’ for blocking Analytics service

GoogleIn an attempt to gratify users desirous of protecting their data from the Google Analytics engine - a service that Websites can use for collecting information about their visitors - the Internet search biggie has released a Web browser ‘plug-in’, which is an add-on that can block the company’s analytics tool.

Elaborating that the new plug-in will be compatible with the Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers, Google said that the development of the tool will help “provide website visitors with more choice about how their data is collected.”

Since the incorporation of Google’s Analytics JavaScript code enables Web site owners to collect data like - a user’s visit to any particular Web site, frequency of use of a site, and search words used to find a site; users who want their data to be protected from the Google analytics engine can download and install the new “opt-out” browser add-on.

According to a blog post by Amy Chang, the Google analytics product management director, the release of the new plug-in is an indication that Google has tried to make its Analytics tool a robust and dependable web analytics platform, while also giving due consideration to the trust and privacy of visitors of the websites.

Chang said: “We’re committed to Google Analytics as an industry-leading web analytics platform that also provides users with transparency and choice when it comes to privacy.”
