No reports are being put forward by the RCMP and the City of Surrey on the case of a former Surrey city planner from the Planning and Development Department, who was fired in late February after accusations of fraud. He has been accused of deceiving the city of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
To perform an audit on this matter, accounting firm KPMG was hired by the City of Surrey. An excuse has been made for not revealing any data, that a more thorough investigation is essential, so that the information can be send to the RCMP.
In question in a bid "to recover the money that has been taken” the Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts informed that the investigation will be continued so that it can include developers and everyone else involved in the development applications.
Watts said, "It's prudent to make sure we're going to expand the audit to make sure all the checks and balances are in place. Anyone who's going to be charged in the case will be held fully accountable for their actions”.
Also, to take precautions for such things to happen again, the city is also in an effort to alter its internal procedures. Due to the police investigation, no further information is being unveiled.
