TTC Dismisses Subway Audit

Adam-GiambroneThe idea of a voluntary citizen audit of the TTC’s subway stations has been sacked by both TTC Chair Adam Giambrone and Transit Union Head Bob Kinnear. Giambrone tweeted that only the money was needed to fix the stations rather than another audit.

The citizen subway audit was launched by TTC Vice-Chair Joe Mihevc, who comments that it was a great idea to involve citizens in a community audit as they come back with great ideas. But he also added that TTC already possess a backlog of repairs and the transit staff reports quarterly over the improvement.

Views came up that if something is being under an audit, then that does not definitely means that there’ll be resources to repair it. So, the need is to be clear about the expectations. This implementation would be more political posturing than practical.

Transit Union Head Bob Kinnear said, “We can’t keep on top of the problems we have in the system now. The fact is, our members report continuously deficiencies in the subway system, whether it be lighting, bricks missing, tiles missing”.

Each of the TTC’s 69 stations will be looked after this planned audit in concern of its state-of-repair and way finding information. This will thus involve the riders directly; and avoid their indirect participation in the form of their tax dollars.
