According to a Saturday report in Bloomberg News, the world’s biggest online retailer Amazon. com is likely coming up with a thinner version of its Kindle e-reader in August, as per the information forwarded by two ‘inside’ sources.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, largely because Amazon has made no public announcement about the next Kindle version, the two sources revealed that the forthcoming Kindle edition will be thinner and will have a more responsive screen with a sharper picture.
Furthermore, Amazon has also probably worked out a way whereby the pages of the new Kindle will be quicker to turn, with the delays involved in the process being shortened considerably.
Surprisingly, sources said that the new Kindle will neither feature a touch-screen nor color; and will use a black-and-white screen that appears a lot like paper. The sharper picture of the new Kindle new version will further give the e-books a more real books-like appearance.
In fact, at Amazon’s earlier-this-week annual shareholder meeting in Seattle, chief executive Jeff Bezos too had remarked that a Kindle version with a color reflective screen is still “some ways out.”
However, Bezos has made no disclosure about the supposedly forthcoming version of the Kindle. Reporting the proceedings of the meeting, The Wall Street Journal had quoted Bezos as saying: “I’ve seen some stuff in the laboratory, but it’s not quite ready for prime-time production.
