Aged Care Mistreatment Will Be Investigated, Says Federal Government

The recent allegation on the nursing homes of “mistreating” aged people will be investigated stated the federal Government says.
Following a News Ltd report on Sunday that revealed the "shocking neglect and cruel treatment" of elderly in two Sydney nursing homes by Bupa Care Services and Domain Principal Group.
It was informed by the ageing Minister Justine Elliot that charges are being investigated. The investigation is being conducted by Aged Care Complaints Investigation Scheme and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.
On Sunday, she said that the charges made are “disturbing” and the treatment according to the reports is “simply not acceptable". She also added that no excuse will be accepted for offering “poor quality care to people in aged care facilities".
The probable reason for this bad treatment has been cited by a survey of Catholic Health Australia which found the country was suffering from a shortage of aged care doctors.
Catholic Health’s Chief Martin Laverty stated that there are not enough doctors to attend to older Australians in residential aged care as many of the doctors in aged care are “themselves approaching retirement".
Commenting on this, Health Minister Nicola Roxon blamed the previous Liberal government's poor planning for the deficit of GPs in aged care.
