According to research from Vision Critical, the recent call by a batch of Facebook users to celebrate May 31 as “Quit Facebook Day” – to protest against the growing privacy issues that have been plaguing the site of late - has probably gone kaput, with the response to the call hardly just being lukewarm at best!
The negligible response to the “Quit Facebook Day” call has either resulted from user indifference or the recently-announced privacy modifications announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at a last-week press conference.
Zuckerberg not only unveiled a new batch of simpler privacy options for Facebook as well as alterations to the kind of information Facebook shares by default with entities that aren't a user's actual friend, amongst other changes.
Going by the Vision Critical’s survey, barely 11 percent of users have reportedly heard of the “Quit Facebook Day” celebrations; with 22 percent of these 11 percent likely going ahead with the deletion of their accounts.
The numbers, after extrapolation, indicate that only about 2 percent of the total Facebook users in the US will probably decide to delete their Facebook accounts in response to the call to quit the site.
Thus far, the official site pertaining “Quit Facebook Day” has “confirmed” that 25,157 Facebook users have decide to take the exit route out of the social networking service.
