That the Abode-Apple fallout over Flash technology has not deterred Abode Systems from developing for Apple’s popular mobile devices is evident from the fact that the company Tuesday unveiled a new digital viewer technology, especially for digital magazines.
In a Tuesday announcement, the San Jose, California-based Abode, said that the new digital viewer, which allows publishers to use its InDesign software for creating applications for the Apple iPad, has been designed in tandem with magazine bigwig Conde Nast, the ‘Wired’ publisher. Beginning with its June issue, Wired has created a $4.99-per-copy app for the iPad.
Noting that it intends bringing the availability of the digital viewer versions on multiple hardware platforms, Abode said in a statement: “Readers are able to experience the design fidelity of a print magazine with the dynamic interactivity of digital media.” In terms of advertising, the viewer will facilitate readers’ interaction with advertising brands.
As per Thomas Wallace, Conde Nast’s editorial director, the company’s partnership with Abode has helped it “re-imagine and rebuild” a print issue into an incredible digital magazine experience on iPad.
Talking about the digital viewer, David Burkett, VP and general manager of creative solutions at Abode, said that the collaborative effort between Abode and Wired has resulted in a digital magazine format which creates an immersive experience – thereby allowing the unique content, look, feel and advertising of a publication to “stand out in the digital realm.”
