There are speculations galore that at its forthcoming, June 14-scheduled, Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference, Microsoft will announce a Hulu application for its Xbox 360 gaming console – thereby marking Microsoft’s newest efforts to increase the expanse of the Xbox beyond a mere gaming platform alone!
Though there has been no official disclosure of the Xbox-specific app from Hulu – the on-demand TV show streaming service -, a source ‘in the know’ of proceedings at Microsoft has confirmed about the existence of such an app to 1UP.
Another confirmation has came from the tech site Gear Live which reported, citing a “reliable source,” that Microsoft will likely announce Hulu integration into Xbox Live at the E3 conference.
The Gear Live report also said that while Hulu is currently available for ‘free’ via a PC Web browser, Hulu on Xbox will apparently entail a subscription fee. While the site’s source could not provide details about the cost for Hulu access on Xbox, it did reveal that the service would be integrated into the Xbox Live dashboard, similar to the Netflix integration.
Clearly, Microsoft’s forthcoming support from Hulu will further mark the company’s endeavors to augment the non-gaming inventory of the Xbox 360. Earlier, in November 2008, Microsoft released the New Xbox Experience dashboard update; and recently, it announced its plans of launching its own Xbox Live TV channel.
