In a recent blog post, Yahoo revealed the promotion of its chief architect Raymie Stata as the new chief technology officer (CTO) - a post that was vacated by Ari Balogh in April. The promotion will take effect immediately.
According to the blog post, as the new CTO of Yahoo, Stata – who joined the company in 2004, after Yahoo’s acquisition of his Stata Labs firm - will “oversee all of Yahoo’s advanced technologies and drive the technical direction of the company.” He will report to chief product officer Blake Irving.
The announcement of Stata’s promotion comes at a time when Yahoo is working on the integration of its recent acquisitions like Associated Content; as well as its incorporation of technology from team-ups with Microsoft, Nokia, and Facebook.
Noting Stata’s outstanding contribution in the development of Yahoo’s search, advertising, and cloud computing products; and helping the company move to a common distributed infrastructure, the blog post said: “As Chief Architect, Raymie led transformative efforts to rewire Yahoo, moving from a set of vertical silos to a horizontal platform infrastructure.”
At the last week Techcrunch Disrupt conference – an event that took place before Stata’s promotion was announced -, Stata revealed Yahoo’s roadmap for future, saying that the technical focus of the company largely pivots around its key goal – that of creating a personally relevant experience for all Yahoo users.
