The controversy between Woodside Petroleum Ltd. and East Timor grew more intense after East Timor accused Woodside of being unreasonable. A dispute has emerged between the two sides on the issue of building a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform above the Timor Sea's Greater Sunrise field.
As per the Government, Woodside is maintaining its position of building a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Government feels that building a gas processing plant in East Timor is a better option.
Woodside claimed that the building of such a pipeline will be more expensive, apart from having significant risks attached to the project. The Company feels that a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform will be beneficial for both, Australia and East Timor.
But the Government of East Timor is refusing to budge from its position. It feels that it is taking the right stand and is not willing to support Woodside in these claims.
The Government expressed that they have the knowledge as well as expertise to decide the best course of action. It is also claiming that it has the required international support for this project.
It is felt that both the sides are refusing to give up their stance and no easy resolution looks to be in sight for the dispute.
